Happy Friday RV Cowboys 🤠

This is Cara from Texas RV Cowboy

Howdy Cowboy, it’s Cara.

(Personally I had one too many reds last night, but this pic of Forrie Smith with a badass rig is helping. Thought I’d share the cure for anyone who needs a pick-me-up.)

LONG TERM STAYS

If You Want Hill Country Views Without Giving Up the Hot Tub

Buckhorn Lake Resort sits in Kerrville, right in the heart of Hill Country. Highs hover in the low 80s, lows dip into the 60s, and the humidity minds its manners. You’ve got two swimming pools, a quiet adult section, a kids’ ranch (with actual things for kids to do), and a laundry list of amenities: fitness center, pickleball, stocked fishing ponds, trash pickup at your site. It’s got a perfect Good Sam rating and a 9.4 on RV Life, which—if you read RV reviews—is basically sainthood. Bonus: it’s less than an hour to Fredericksburg, Boerne, Bandera, and San Antonio. So whether you’re into wine, rollercoasters, or just watching ducks from your patio, Buckhorn makes a pretty good case for staying a while.

DRIVING TIPS

Did you know…

  • 60% of marriages end in divorce

  • 80% of those divorces start while backing into a campsite

  • And 99% of internet stats are completely made up

But if backing up stresses you out, this might actually help.

Plenty of folks in our community have told me that reversing into a site is their #1 RV headache. So here’s a simple move that can make it easier:

šŸŽÆ The S-Turn Method

As the front of your truck passes the edge of your campsite, ease into a soft S-turn.
That gentle curve helps line up your trailer without overcorrecting.

It keeps the angle wide, the motion smooth, and the whole process way less dramatic.

Try it out.
Back it in.
Give yourself a little nod when it works.

And if you’ve got other RV maneuvers giving you trouble—let me know. I’ll keep the boxed wine flowing and the research a goin’.

Do this

DON’T do this

Bonus Tip: Talk Nice or Don’t Talk at All

Do you have a partner helping out? Use walkie-talkies.

  • ā€œCome driverā€¦ā€

  • ā€œ6 feet… 3 feet… aaaaand stop.ā€

  • (Optional: throw in a ā€œNice job, Cowboy.ā€)

No shouting.
No frantic hand puppets.
And believe it or not—cussing doesn’t actually make the trailer go straighter.

EARLY SEASON PREP

Cowboys Don’t Camp by Coincidence

Most RVers?
They’re just now starting to panic-Google campsites for Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

But not you.
You’re a Texas RV Cowboy.

And the Cowboys who read this newsletter?
We didn’t book them back in January, but we sure as hell started the countdown.
(Memorial Day prep starts sometime between New Year’s and Valentine’s around here. Alarms were set. Spouses were warned. Coffee was prepped.)

Let’s talk May booking windows for that crisp fall foliage while the unprepared scroll their phones in the Walmart parking lot.

šŸ—“ļø Don’t Get Shut Out: May Booking Windows You Gotta Know

Reminder: Texas State Park campsites open up five months in advance—and that means right now (May), they’re gettin’ snatched up for October trips. Yep, that perfect crisp-air, fall-foliage, pumpkin-spice-and-hiking-boots season.

šŸ”” Here’s the deal:

  • Bookings open exactly 5 months out, at 8:00 AM Central sharp.

  • Want to camp October 1st? Be ready May 1st.

  • Want October 15th? Set your alarm for May 15th.

  • You get the picture.

The good ones (Garner, Lost Maples, Inks Lake…you know who you are) go fast. Like, within minutes. If you blink, you’re boondocking in a Buc-ee’s parking lot. So hop on texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com or call 512-389-8900 and get yourself locked in.

I’ll be sharing my favorite fall spots real soon šŸ

Try not to get too rowdy this weekend Cowboy. See you in your inbox Monday!
